Alternative Education Provision

Where Education and Boxing Change lives

As a registered Alternative Education Provider for Nottinghamshire, Suggys Champions Academy are passionate about supporting our young people to empower their minds and strengthen their futures.

We work with students that are at risk of exclusion to give them the skills, knowledge and tools to be able to successfully reintegrate them back into mainstream school. Through a mix of alternative education and the life lessons found in the ring, we help students develop respect - for both themselves and others, resilience and the self-belief to be able to succeed.

We offer bespoke 1-1 Alternative Education Provision to all students from Key Stage 1 all the way through to Key Stage 4.

Suggys Schools Intervention

  • With over 20 years of experience working in our local schools, Suggys Champions Academy brings a unique blend of behaviour intervention, confidence building and boxing discipline to our young people who need it the most.

  • In March 2024 we were granted funding to be able to run these sessions in a more formal manner which allowed us to monitor and track the progress of the students we were working with.

  • Working with students who were at risk of suspensions, those with low attendance and those struggling with confidence and self-esteem, we have made a profound positive impact on some of these young people's lives.
  • Through proper monitoring we have been able to evaluate this impact which proves the success of this intervention.

GRT Programme

In January we expanded our educational provision to include those who are not currently in mainstream education.

As part of this programme our students not only spent time in our gym learning how to box with our qualified coaches but they also got an amazing opportunity and went up to the home of GB Boxing in Sheffield. Here they were given a tour of the facilities, did some pad work in the same ring that Anthony Joshua won in and met former Olympian Richie Woodhall.

Boxing is more than just a sport, it gives hope and aspiration to many young people.

This was an amazing opportunity for us to be able to continue to support more young people in our local area and we are so proud of all the work we do here.
