Here at Suggys Champions Foundation we are dedicated to providing a safe and supportive environment for young people in Newark. Our mission is to develop individuals both inside and outside the ring, and make a positive impact in our community. In May 2025 we have rebranded to encompass more fully what we are about as a club and a charity.
Newark Amateur Boxing Club was started with a mission to provide young people with a platform to develop both physically and mentally through the art of boxing. Suggys Champions Foundation and Suggy's Champions Academy will continue this work, empowering our members to reach their full potential and become successful in all areas of their lives. Through discipline, dedication, and the support of our coaches, we aim to make a positive impact in the lives of our youth and our community.
The Problem
Why Newark needs us
Anti-social behaviour is one of the highest in Nottinghamshire
Newark's most vulnerable Primary School Pupils are not having their needs met within the town.
Pupils are sent over 20 miles away taking them out of area and removing their sense of belonging to our town.
Alongside the social isolation comes a financial cost that schools, council and taxpayers must pay.
Our Solution
What makes us different
Suggys Champions Academy blends Boxing, Education and alternative learning to help young people - especially those who at risk of exclusion or are struggling in mainstream education - find focus, confidence and direction.
Through bespoke training and mentorship the academy turns energy into opportunity - building discipline in the ring and skills for life.

At NABC, we believe in the power of boxing to transform lives. Our experienced coaches are passionate about helping young people build confidence, discipline, and resilience through the sport. With a focus on community engagement, we strive to make a difference beyond the boxing ring.
NABC actively promotes a supportive and inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels welcome and valued. Individual needs are catered for and fun and fitness encompass all that we do.
Suggys Champions Foundation is dedicated to making a difference in our local community. Working with schools, colleges, businesses and youth centers, the foundation helps young people build skills, confidence and and connections for a brighter future.
Through interventions, mentoring and trusted adults, we give people the tools they need to succeed - and a sense of belonging. By working together we create opportunities that strengthen the whole community. When people feel supported and valued, everyone thrives.

At SCF we are passionate about supporting our local young people at every level. Whether it is through the gym, our schools sessions, our community work or any of the other aspects of Newark life that we are involved in. Our goal is to help every young person become the best version of themselves.

Our Origins - Newark ABC
Newarks oldest and most successful amateur boxing club
Formed in 2002, Newark Amateur Boxing Club (NABC) is the longest-running club of its kind in the town and runs hand in hand with Suggys Gym. With over 37 years of Martial Arts experience, Suggys Champions Foundation, the community and the coaches behind our Amateur Boxing Club are all deep rooted in the heart of Newark,
Its members train regularly with the highly experienced boxing coaches at Suggy’s Gym including GB and England Development Coach Dean Sugden.
Boxers are encouraged to train 5 times a week in all aspects of boxing including technical, physical and mental preparation. All boxers and coaches abide by a code of conduct where we hold discipline and respect in high regard.
At Newark Amateur Boxing Club, we believe in the power of boxing to transform lives. With a focus on community engagement, we strive to make a difference beyond the boxing ring.
In November 2023 NABC was changed from a not-for-profit club to a recognised charity in England and Wales.
In May 2025 we changed our charities name to Suggys Champions Foundation. However NABC lives on and our boxers continue to box under our banner of NABC with Suggys Champions Foundation sitting as the umbrella charity to help them continue to succeed.
